weekend trips : a very carmel christmas

After a very long roadtrip, I'm here in Carmel, California. I feel like I should call it Storybrooke though. I feel like I should be carrying a basket with a red hood. This place is so cute and quaint! I can't explain it unless I just post pictures.

More pictures soon! I'm just going to watch 25 Days of Christmas. TOY STORY MARATHON :D

memories : miniotics auditions

If any of you know me at all, you guys know that I’m a dancer. I love to dance. It’s a creative outlet that I can do whenever I hear a good song. I dance to Dubstep, Hip hop, Jazz, Contemp. Hell, I even dance to Big Time Rush, One Direction… well if you count dancing in my room and jumping like and idiot as “good dancing.” Generally all of my friends are dancers or at least enjoy the sport. Yes, dance is a sport. Don’t believe me? Take a look at my friend’s persuasive essay.

Anyway, today I decided to go to the Miniotics Auditions. Dumbo of Poreotics has a group of kids sixteen and under that he trains to compete in competitions (just to fill you in) and today he was holding auditions. One of my friends, Franklin, is already in said group.

Today I decided, “why the hell not, it’s my last chance.” So after school, I went with two of my friends to Anaheim and auditioned. It was a fun piece to learn. A lot of isolations and such, but it was a challenge. My dance teacher always says that the best dancers try everything, and I that’s what I did.

I don’t know if I’m going to make it. Hell, there were eight year olds that could hit better than me, but you know what? I had fun. I put myself out there and took a chance. Sure I probably shriveled up under Dumbo’s stare when it was my group up for audition. Either way, I had fun and that’s really what dance should be about, right?

Well… that’s my little story for today.

P.S. I thought I was going to fangirl. Dumbo is an amazing dancer and definitely an inspiration for me to try harder in the future.

weekend trips : downtown los angeles

Today I woke up at the horrible hour of nine and hauled my ass to the shower. Although I'm tired now, doing so was worth it. I showered, ate some Hawaiian Bread, and then my mom and I were out the door. After picking up a sleepy almost-17-year-old Danielle, we were off to Downtown LA for Unique LA, an independent design show that features local artists!

On our way, we just chilled and listened to KOST 103.5. Got to love that Christmas music. When we got there, I was already dazzled by the amount of people that showed up, and even more so when we entered the actual show. We got a free cotton tote bag, which my mother lost, so even if we didn't buy anything, we left with a gift! There were so many vendors: shirt vendors, jewelry, soaps, cupcakes, posters, prints, all the joys for a indie child of today.

One of my favorite vendors was Stella and Bow. I may be a little bias because I found out about them from Logan Lerman's tweet, so I was on the hunt for them (and him). After passing through one half of the show, I found it! Their jewelry was so cute. The whistle on one of the necklaces even worked! I talked to the girl behind the table, and Danielle kept playing with the Shelley necklace, a necklace with a magnifying glass. We joked around and she was super nice! I came back later with my mom. I kept oogling one of the lockets, and my mom decided to buy it as a christmas gift! Love you, mom!

When I got home and looked up Stella and Bow's website... I found out that the girl I was talking to was Logan Lerman's sister. -dies a little on the inside- I also found out that the necklace was originally $60. This is the good thing about buying it straight from the source, cheaper prices!

There were so many vendors there, it was amazing. I'm sad that I didn't manage to pick up all the of the business cards of the vendors I liked. There were so many, it was so hard to remember the names! I did manage to pick up a few such as Unicorn Crafts, Mae Mae Jewelry, Urban Octopus, and a few more. All the things that were being sold was handmade, so it was understandable that the prices were so high. I'm still kicking myself for not buying those $5 necklaces I found! It was a whole store full. When I went to go look for it, I couldn't find it. Too many booths, too many people. It was crazy (but not as much as Saturday's show).

I bought Danielle a really cool sketchbook. The covers were actually the covers from One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Suess. Inside there were blank pages and pages from the actual book. I can't wait to see what Danielle draws in there. We actually went back to Stella and Bow, where Danielle purchased the magnifying glass necklace for her mom. We walked around and before we left, Danielle and I went to the Oh Snap! Photobooth where we took an awesome Christmas picture.

My mom started to get hungry, so after entering a contest, we left and found an El Pollo Loco to eat at. I forgot that they had mac & cheese side dishes, so I basically munched on five tortillas the whole time. We walked back and headed to the car. It was there I found out that we were about a mile away from Angel's Knoll, the park where the bench from (500) Days of Summer is located. On the way to the park, we spotted a movie being filmed. (We all wondered why there were so many men and women in business suits on a Sunday) and a photoshoot in the middle of a street. That's LA's fashion district for you! In the end, we decided not to look for parking, so we just left.

Our final stop of the day was the IKEA in West Covina to pick me up a new desk so I have more room to work. I got a simple desk, where each of the table legs are a different color. Ha. Sounds like me, right? Danielle bought herself a shark plush, then we dropped her home, ending her pre-birthday celebration. It was a fun day and I can't wait to be able to wear that locket after Christmas!

Next week, I'm hopefully going to Old Town Pasadena with my friend, Christine! Fun times ahead...

OH THAT NOTE: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANIELLE, YOU ARE AN AMAZING GIRL THAT I BASICALLY CONSIDER MY SISTER. YOU ARE THE DEMI TO MY SELENA. I LOVE YOU.

obsession: Little Darlin'

I'm sort of obsessing over this song right now. (It also doesn't help that Logan Lerman is on the piano.)

memories : dancers @ work

I cannot explain how much I love to perform. The energy, the stage lights, the memories, even the butterflies before getting on stage, I love it all. This past Thursday and Friday were the third and fourth time I performed at my school's dance concert. Seeing the support I get from my friends and all the memories I made in those two nights are what makes my school year fun. Dance concerts are the highlights of my school year. I look forward to them so much. Next semester, I'm making a promise to myself that I shall work harder.

I love sharing the stage with all these wonderful dancers and I love every single one of my friends who screamed my name and came out to support me.

artwork: moleskine part 1

I've been lacking a creative brain for awhile now. I keep staring at artwork on Tumblr and random sketches. It just makes me wish I was able to be seeping creativity. I need a small sketchbook... or I just need to do more studies.

I wish I was able to sketch whatever, whenever I liked. Gah. Oh well...

I've been studying transcendentalism in class (the first hippies) and I've been craving to draw more nature pictures... -sigh- Time to take a trip to a garden and do some flower studies... I also need to work on my anatomy.

obsession : The Night Circus by Erin Morganstern

I ordered this book from Amazon based on the fact that it was recommended to Harry Potter fans (...also Twilight fans...). The cover itself intrigued me and I find myself getting more into the dark and macabre themes. I don't know whether I'm drawn to freakiness or the turn of the century victorian-ness, but I absolutely love this book. I have to blame all the art I see on deviantArt, those of kyme-chan or Something-Scary for making me love darkness... although I am still somewhat scared of the dark. Or it could possibly be how close it is to Halloween...

This wonderful book, The Night Circus jumps between a 29 years, going back and forth. There is a love story, magic spells, and a lot of beautiful freaks. I can just picture Logue's flat (from The King's Speech) as the one that Marco occupies and see the designs that Mme. Padva creates. They are stunningly beautiful, yet only in black and white, to fit into the theme of La Cirque de Reves. Maybe I'm just drawn to the french in this book too.

The way that Mrs. Morganstern writes, she ends up creating a whole new world. She knows everything that is happening in the world and leaves no detail overlooked. Everything in the book just fills my imagination and dreams. This book is just a chef d'oevure, a masterpiece. I couldn't put it down. (Well... I had to for three hours due to my homework). I stayed up until 3 A.M. reading.

It's just a wonderful book, and I hope you immerse yourself into this dream as much as I did.

Also excuse my horrible grammar.

rants : of mothers, college, and pain

I don't even know what to name this new post. Anyway, today was an okay day. I don't know. I had a fun time with Danielle just watching stupid videos and laughing, but my mom has seriously been crazy. I get that she's worried but I don't ever get to take risks when I'm within her supervision. I understand that this is my junior year... I have SAT, I have AP classes, but I still want to have fun. (This is the one of the main reasons I want to leave CA for college). She's been constantly bugging me about a college that she loves, but I am not interested in whatsoever. I'm not going to a literal arts school where the only major I can probably willing to take is art. I like art but a life of it? It used to sound appealing, but not so much anymore. I can still do graphics on the side, take a minor in art, but a major? I don't think so. These are the times I wish I had an older brother or sister, so my mother already pestered them about colleges and I could just listen.

So that takes care of two parts of my title. Pain... well, the right side of my jaw has been hurting non-stop for the past few days. I've been sore from dance and such, but it hurts to yawn or even open my mouth. I don't want to go to the doctor, but I'm worried. GAH. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to persevere through it.

Another pain in my life is actually in dance. This cocky ass bastard in my class, Elijah, is just... UGH. I don't know. He's a sophomore who thinks he is all that. He refuses to let us ask for help from others because he thinks we can choreograph the whole dance by ourselves, yet he does NOTHING to help. Then today, I have my DSLR camera and that fucking bastard whines "just because you have a DSLR, doesn't make you a photographer." No. Really? Does it look like I fucking care? No. I'm sorry that this is the camera I prefer to use, you little dick. What pissed me off even more was how he basically tried to yank it out of my hand when the camera strap was around my neck, saying "I can help you work it." YOU COCKY LITTLE DOUCHEBAG, I HAVE THIS CAMERA. YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW HOW TO FUCKING USE IT? I'M OLDER THAN YOU, CAN I HAVE A LITTLE FUCKING RESPECT PLEASE? I will gladly kick him in the balls if someone asks me to.

I'm sorry for the amount of curse words I used, but this is my blog and I will fucking cuss as much as I fucking want.

I still am not happy with that fucking bastard.

artwork: wedding photos

Today, the plan was to go to a dance team audition, then go to a wedding. Take out the audition, then you have my day. The wedding was beautiful, honestly. It was right by CalTech at this place called The Athenaeum. It was so beautiful. I felt as if it was an Italian Villa with a small California Mission vibe. The ceremony was beautiful and the bride was even more so. It was small, so there was only one other girl that was younger than me. I think she and I were the only ones under the age of 20. I helped out with the reception. Don't even get me started on the dinner. The food was amazing. I'm so full right now. I just wish there was a dance floor so we can all dance, but the bride is asian and asian traditions were incorporated into this wedding. (Amy is chinese, Matt is white). All in all, it was a beautiful day. Congrats to the newly weds and have fun in Spain!

memories : first day of school

it's a new year. bleh. ahaha. I guess it's time to break down my classes.

First Period: Modern American History with Harderson
At first, I was iffy on not taking APUSH, but I got Harderson, which makes things all better. Though I'm in a class with people I don't think I'd enjoy class with. The only people I do talk to are Sandy and Liz and they sit near me so I'm decently happy. My friend's bitchy girlfriend is in class with me though... but Harderson as a teacher completely makes up for it. He is seriously the best.

Second Period: Intermediate Performance Ensemble with Lindenberg
Another year of dance! The dance concerts are seriously the highlight of my year. I love having dance with Megan and Tiffany again. Jeremy is such a chill little freshman, but I'm worried about making a piece for the winter dance concert. I just want to dance already. Still my favorite class!

Third Period: French III Honors with Tietz (Bougie)
It's french, what can I say? I like Bougie as a teacher, but when it comes to him teaching it's like bleh. At least we don't have to get a bunch of useless handouts now. I already have a project with Danielle and that makes me happy. It's my only class with her. The class is tiny, so the people who don't really try are gone. I'm glad. Although, I still sit across from Andy. Ugh. Oh well. One more year then NO MORE LANGUAGE CLASSES!

Fourth Period: English III Honors with Chacon
This class seems fun, but something about Chacon just seems off. I don't like the general aura around her. Wow I sound like a hippie. English is not my strongest class and I seriously feel like I'm going to struggle with her as my teacher. Who knows? I might be able to manage an A within the class.

Fifth Period: AP Calculus with Hansen
I have a lot of people from my Trig/Math Anal class in here, that makes me happy. Another year with Jefferson, Paul, Erin, Galeb, and Kat! They made math fun ahaha. I'm glad to see Disney toys at the front of the room. I'm not glad about the test on Monday. Mrs. Hansen needs to wear better clothes though... just saying. She's really nice, but her bangs are distracting. I sit in the back at the moment, but I'll be fine in the class. Definitely getting a 5 on the AP exam in May!

Sixth Period: AP Chemistry with Hebert
A Bear. A bear. I seriously need to remember how to pronounce her name. She's a blink-182 fan, a Bright Eyes fan, and an Apple product addict. She's awesome. I think I'll be fine in her class. I have Chanel and Andi with me again! Even though it is my longest class of the day (damn 6A period), I'm excited. Although the work is going to kill me, I'm happy to have another year of chem... instead a year of outlines in Biology. With Iwanaga. -shudders-

memories: last days of summer.

Beach day with Danielle! so much fun. We watched surfers wipe out so many times. The water was so freaking cold, but the day was so nice. I don't think there is a better way to say bye to summer than a day at the beach. It's the California girl in me. If I do end up living in New York for college, I don't think I could survive the summer without going to a California beach... although I heard that East Coast beaches are much better...

fashion : shoes

I love shoes. L. O. V. E. T. H. E. M. much like every other girl on this planet (and guys ahaha).

Zorra Boots by Madden Girl

I just bought these boots (or well my mom bought these boots for me) at Off Broadway shoes. I'm so excited to own Steven Madden shoes! Gah. Aren't they beautiful?

Although when it comes to trends, I'm iffy about shoes. I like pumps. I hate oxfords. I can't wear flats well. In the end, my favorite type of shoes are boots! I have three pairs at the moment. I also adore converse and classic vans. Since I'm a dancer, I also love Nike Dunks. Right now I would LOVE a pair of green low top converse or gray or black classic vans. Oh well... one pair at a time...

fashion : prom dress

I guess it's time to start a new subtopic. I always look a clothes that I want, but I always revert back to what I'm comfortable with. I think that's why I never go for skirts or new trends. I'm used to the same type of t-shirt (though I've started to wear crop tops) and jeans or shorts. I have a closet full of tank tops and regular shirts. I really need a change up. I always see clothes I think that are really cute, but I never try. I'm going to change that. I'm tired of looking so simple. I don't care what other people think about how I dress, but I want to change it up once in awhile. (This is why it is great to have friends like Jessica, Katie, Sarah, Kelsey, Sarah, and Danielle)

Anyway, here is the main reason I made this post. I have been in love with this dress since I saw it last spring. Unfortunately, I couldn't buy it then because it was sold-out. I wanted it for prom. It may be an option this year.

Poetic Penumbra Dress for $109.99 at Modcloth

Isn't it just amazing?

Before I made this blog, I found this artist and she has a blog here on blogger. Now I follow her. She has an amazing art style and a even better fashion style. She is asian, like me, and also has an obsession with underwear. Ha. I love her blog, though I don't agree on a few things for her style, but it is still an inspiration.

That's all for now. Hopefully I can get this dress before it sells out again!

dreams : europe

Apparently my mom may be sending me over to Europe senior year. THIS IS EXCITING. I can actually use my french!

Basically, though I'd try to go as many places as I can, I would spend most of my time in London and Paris. It just seems right. I will visit any, if not all, Harry Potter places. That's my plan. Then Paris, what can I say? It's the city of love, I should have fun! I just hope I don't go alone or that would suck.

I've learned the best way to travel is to ditch any communication items. Phones (off, just to call the parents, just in case), laptops, internet, all gone. I may opt to bring my iPod... long train trips are boring, especially form London to Paris. All I would do is document my days activities in a travel journal. That would be awesome. As long as I don't have some crazy aunt that just died and I have to go around Europe seeing everything she saw. I still need to finish the sequel to that book.

Oh well. This is a dream for now. Back to reality and the nine journals for English I haven't written yet.

That is such a lie. I'm going back to reading Bleach.

dreams : I'm magical

I got into Pottermore, Day 1 (I really don't see how it is so hard...). I got in on Day 2. And I just helped about five people get accounts on Day 3. I'M A WITCH NOW.

memories : jonas brothers

nostalgia. major nostalgia.

when did these boys go from this

to this?

my middle school years were all about Jonas Brothers. I had a complete wall dedicated to them. It was crazy. They were my first concert. So many memories. I couldn't buy their CD after A Little Bit Longer. It was just too weird. I still love listening to them though. They relax me. Aha. I'm such a Disney child.

birthday : people & pictures

I had an amazing time at my birthday party last friday (last friday night, we danced on table tops...) The general amount of my friends made it and I got an overload of Stitch and Harry Potter items. If I had to summarize it in words...

Justin Bieber pinata. Hogwarts cake. DJ Fiasko. Pool. Disney. Tron. Lilo and Stitch. Presents. FUN.

I wouldn't change that day for anything. It was probably the happiest I was for awhile.
